The defendants-Rennie Davis, Dave Dellinger, John Froines, Tom Hayden, Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Bobby Seale (the co-founder of the Black Panther Party who was ultimately removed from the trial, making it seven and not eight who were on trial), and Lee Weiner-openly lampooned the proceedings, blowing kisses to the jury, wearing their own judicial robes, and bringing a Viet Cong flag into the courtroom. Opening at the end of 1969-a politically charged year at the beginning of Nixon's presidency and at the height of the anti-war movement-the Trial of the Chicago Seven (which started out as the Chicago Eight) brought together Yippies, antiwar activists, and Black Panthers to face conspiracy charges following massive protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, protests which continue to have remarkable contemporary resonance. Reprinted to coincide with the release of the new Aaron Sorkin film, this book provides the political background of this infamous trial, narrating the utter craziness of the courtroom and revealing both the humorous antics and the serious politics involved ![]() THE TRIAL THAT IS NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE ![]()

![]() ![]() One glance around and it’s glaringly obvious: they’re winning.as of now. ![]() Brought forth upon an unsuspecting public in 1997, Arrogant Bastard Ale openly challenged the tyrannical overlords who were brazenly attempting to keep the people chained in the shackles of poor taste. We believe that pandering to the lowest common denominator represents the height of tyranny-a virtual form of keeping the consumer barefoot, stupid & led by the nose social media. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this. Perhaps you think multimillion-dollar ad campaigns make all that junk taste better. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory-maybe something with a multimillion-dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made at an independent brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless seltzer / fizzy yellow beer / whatever-the-hell will give you more sex appeal. ![]() ![]() It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. Many people love it (which is why we sell it) and others literally can't stand to be in the same room with it let alone open the package. This is taken from the back of Arrogant Bastard Ale and I have to say it applies here. ![]() ![]() In 1947, he travelled to Paris to continue studies in mechanics.
